"This exhibition creates an emergency placeholder for a lost past and an unknown future. It forges a path through closures and cancellations, delays and uncertainties, that left many ideas without a place to land. The participating artists have explored, in a word, the half-life that we are all living. We join them in their processing of the pandemic. Whether it is Sidney Masuga’s mural, which uses a solar calendar to mark this moment in human history, or Emilie Trice’s punching bags to help us express the anger, pain, and grief that we collectively hold; each work helps us to work through this moment not knowing what the next will bring." - RedLine Contemporary Art Center

My artist statement on these collages: I was 8 months pregnant when the country started going into lockdown. I spent March and April going in for routine appointments, watching the waiting rooms empty as more and more checks were put in place. A nurse told me my only goal was to stay out of the hospital as long as possible, which I took to heart. When I arrived to give birth the doors were locked, and once I was helped inside I gave birth within 30 minutes. These are images from my experiences of that time spent in empty waiting rooms populated with unknown dangers. Motherhood has never been easy, especially for women artists, but this moment is pressing visibility into the space of motherhood and renewing a need for connection, awareness, and conversation around women’s (often) invisible work and contributions to community, economy, and the arts.
